Winter's Clock

I fear winter's clock;

hands clench, work slows, seconds freeze,

the spring in recoil.

your fields, covered in snow, or

unbowed white chrysanthemum.

  1. The clock image is used effectively to address the human condition. "the spring in recoil" manages to even extend beyond that metaphor effortlessly bringing us back to the issue of time resolved finally in fields of snow or white chrysanthemum symbolizing both hope (how Americans use this symbol) and death (as most of the world uses it).

    Finely crafted complex and complementary imagery. Excellent.
